The Governor of Florida Rick Scott must soon sign the bill, which has already been approved by the state Senate.
Under the bill, all public schools in “a conspicuous place” will be posted the motto of Florida: “In God We Trust”. The initiator of the innovation was the member of the house of representatives, the Democrat from Jacksonville Kimberly Daniels.
“This is the motto of our state, this phrase is on our currency, and children need to learn next to the motto, which is one of the foundations of our country. Great should not be hidden”, said Daniels.
The words “In God We Trust” was on the state seal of Florida since 1868, and on the flag in 1900, but the official motto of the sunshine state began only in 2006.
“This motto is part of our history, of our nation. Our ancestors lived by faith in God, and we support it” — said Chris Walker, pastor of lake County.
However, the bill has critics. Before lawmakers acted , sue Wolanski, a representative of the parents of Monroe County. She noted that in schools, and so have the state flag with the inscription: “In God We Trust”.
“Our government needs to adopt laws that will solve the real problems of education and will not affect the taxpayers”, added Boltanski.
