Scientists at the University of Surrey (England) and Dusseldorf University named after Heinrich Heine (Germany) showed that exposure to daylight helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The study involved 14 people who were exposed to blue light (wavelength 45 nm) for 30 minutes, which corresponds to stay in sunlight. In the experiment, the volunteers evaluated the arterial stiffness, the degree of expansion of blood vessels, blood pressure and levels of nitric oxide in the blood plasma.
It turned out that the blue light helps to reduce systolic blood pressure (pressure when the heart) to 8 mm Hg. In addition, the subjects decreased other indicators of cardiovascular risk, and increased stress relaxation of the vessels. Also increased concentration of nitric oxide involved in the protection of the circulatory system disorders.
According to scientists, the results will help to develop new methods for the prevention of heart disease and blood vessels, which annually kills more than 150 thousand people in the UK alone.
