Experts evaluated the level of butyrate in the blood.
Scientists at the University of Illinois (USA) have discovered that eating dietary fiber reduces the risk of inflammatory processes in the mammalian brain with age. In the case of a man, perhaps it will help to reduce the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive disorders.
It is known that dietary fiber contained in vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, cereals and bread, contribute to the growth of beneficial microflora in the gut. Bacteria break down food components not digested by its own enzymes of man, and produce short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate.
In the study, researchers used mice that were divided into groups in accordance with age and shares (low or high) of dietary fiber in the feed. Experts evaluated the level of ghb in blood and concentration of proinflammatory substances in the intestine. It turned out that a diet with high levels of dietary fiber significantly increased the level of butyrate and decreased inflammation in the intestine in old rodents.
The experts also evaluated the activity-related inflammatory genes in microglia – immune cells in the Central nervous system. It turned out that under the action of butyrate amount of protein, which could cause the neuronal damage, decreased.
Scientists believe that a similar mechanism exists in humans, but confirmation of its availability for future research.
