23-year-old resident of Hamilton Baratov Karim sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and pay a fine in the amount of 250 thousand U.S. dollars. He was convicted of a serious security breach Yahoo, which, according to Federal agents of the United States, was ordered by the state spies Russia.
Baratov admitted that for 7 years (until his arrest last year) he collected the data of thousands of accounts via email. He also fraudulently forced users to enter their data on the fake site, where he collected information.
The prosecution referred to the fact that the Russian security service hired Baratova, as he was born in Kazakhstan (former Soviet Republic). The defence insisted that Baratov did not know what the job does the FBI.
The police and the prosecution insisted that Baratov was jailed for 7 years and 10 months, but the judge refused this decision, citing the fact that other criminals, serving sentences for similar cases, have received smaller terms.
Protection insisted on the fact that at the beginning of the work Baratov was just a young guy who liked to program, so he did not understand the seriousness of the situation and agreed to work for the sake of “sports interest”. It is also reported that Baratov Karim quickly became rich thanks to these orders and look forward to demonstrating this fact in social networks.
Protection added that he was not trying to cause anyone harm. As well, he sincerely regrets his actions. For a young man that’s a pretty cruel life lesson, said the lawyers.
But the court did not agree that this situation can be equated to one when a teenager makes a mistake on the Internet out of curiosity. Here, according to the judge, we are talking about that guy built a kind of career on the invasion of thousands of personal lives.
Baratov lives in a quiet area of Hamilton in the house for $650,000. The neighbors know him only by expensive machines. Its fleet includes Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, Mercedes and BMW.
