Deadly criminal fire in Quebec: arrest

A man lost his life in a fire of criminal origin occurred Saturday in Quebec.

The victim is a 69-year-old man whose identity was not disclosed.

Firefighters called the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) investigators at approximately 4:25 am Saturday morning at the scene of a fire in a residential building on Rue de la Bastille in the Borough of Montreal. City Limoilou. The firefighters had discovered the inanimate victim inside. They performed resuscitation maneuvers, but the death of the 60-year-old was noted soon after he arrived at the hospital. Serge Gormley, a 57-year-old man, was arrested, the SPVQ said late Saturday afternoon. He appeared at the Quebec City courthouse. Charges of first degree murder and arson have been laid against him. He will remain incarcerated until the next judicial proceedings.

This was the fourth murder to occur on the territory of Quebec City since the beginning of the year.
