Glyphosate is one of the most popular means from weeds in the United States.A court in the US ruled that the biotechnology Corporation Monsanto needs to pay 290 million dollars to the gardener who claimed he got cancer because of means from weeds, reports the Chronicle.info with reference on the BBC.
A jury in California ruled that Monsanto knew that the funds from the weed and RangerPro Roundup containing glyphosate is hazardous to health, but failed to warn buyers.
This is the first which reached the court case of glyphosate as a possible cause of cancer.
Monsanto denies that glyphosate causes cancer, and intends to appeal the decision. “The jury did not understand”, – said Vice-President of the Cattle Patricj after the meeting.
Applying to the court gardener Dewain Johnson is one of more than five thousand plaintiffs, who put forward such accusations.
The court’s decision in California will likely lead to hundreds of similar lawsuits against Monsanto, which was recently acquired by German chemical and pharmaceutical conglomerate Bayer.
The Johnson in 2014 was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. His lawyers argue that he regularly used the means RangerPro while working at the school in Boenisch, California.
