In the new Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis will make his big return. But this last one has caused controversy because of its use of firearms.
In 1978, Halloween, the night of the masks, John Carpenter revolutionized the horror cinema. By inventing a figure of absolute evil, invincible and insatiable, the director, would nourish the kind of a new figure. The slasher could then complete the crystallization, in order to temporarily become one of the dominant currents of cinema horror. Ahead of the release of its sequel/remake/reboot, a controversial unexpected the tip of its nose.
This time, it will (really) not to do
The controversy sometimes comes precisely from there where it wasn’t expected. However, between the unbridled violence of his killer, the will of the director David Gordon Green to transform some of the themes or motifs of the slasher (the one at issue in our critique), several subjects would have been able to serve as a springboard for discussions enfiévrées.
Surprisingly it is the use of heroine Laurie Strode firearms, which annoyed the spectators close to the NRA. Why ? Because Jamie Lee Curtis has indicated in the past that she was in favor of gun control in the United States, and that some people see so in the scenes where she gun at all is a hypocrisy issue.
The controversy is, of course, stupid, the artist is not there to play on the big screen for his convictions. And just, again, it is Curtis that explains why the better, in the columns of USA Today.
One of the first promotional images of this new chapter
“They knew that Laurie should use firearms in the film. And there are a myriad of firearms that could have been used in these scenes. I was very clear with the producers that the character would use weapons that are designed for self-defense, to protect her family and herself.
I am an actress in a slasher. I need to exercise responsibility in the choices that affect my personal life. But I’m also an actress in search of work. And honestly, if I had wanted to make a career as an actress and the pacific, I would have simply never worked. Ever.
All saints will be aggressive…
And I have always been proud to represent women who do not allow themselves to do and counter-attack with creativity tinged with cunning and intelligence, who are fighting for their lives and that of their family. “
The situation is all the more preposterous that, as she explains, Jamie Lee Curtis has always supported the Second Amendment of the U.s. Constitution (which states that citizens can ensure their own protection with the help of firearms).
Anyways, we recommend you go z yeuter Laurie Strode in the next Halloween, in theaters October 24, 2018. Our critique is there.
