The leader of the federal New Democratic Party recounts for the first time these assaults in a book published on Tuesday, Love & Courage .
Mr. Singh recounts that he was assaulted at the age of 10 by a martial arts instructor.
In an interview with The Canadian Press, he explains that it is his duty to use his national platform in a way that could be beneficial to others.
The NDP leader also believes that his childhood experiences have helped him manage the very high profile of the media and the public towards a national political leader.
Singh argues that even though he is the target of a lot of criticism, the experience is never “as bad” as he has been before.
