Long-lost picture created by the artist pre-Renaissance Cimabue (Cimabue), found in the kitchen of an elderly Frenchwoman. Soon the masterpiece will be put up for auction.
The lady from Compiegne decided to rate this picture hanging in her kitchen. Critics found that it is the work of the Italian painter of the XIII century Cimabue, whose real name is Channy di Pepo. The wooden panel is part of a cycle showing several scenes.
It is expected that the 10-inch painting, entitled “the Mockery of Christ” will be sold at least 6.5 million dollars. It will auction house Acteon 27 Oct.
