Microsoft plans to release an inexpensive iPad competitor.
Microsoft is preparing a line of low-cost Surface tablets in the second half of 2018.
Through these devices, the company wants to reach the segment of the market, which is dominated by Apple, reports the online edition of the Chronicle.info with reference for a New time.
According to reports, the device will touch display with a size of about 10 inches diagonally, about the same size as the standard iPad. The flip stand will allow you to place the gadgets at a comfortable angle.
Supposedly Microsoft will offer versions of the tablets with flash module with a capacity of 64GB and 128GB. Some modifications will have the LTE modem. A first for a Surface tablet will get a port USB Type-C.
It is expected that tablets will be 20% lighter than models of a higher class, but you will get four hours less battery life. If the current Surface Pro can work for 13.5 hours, the new device can operate without recharging for at least 10 hours. The processors and graphics chips for the devices, according to rumors, will deliver the Intel, but so far these plans are not public.
Microsoft already made a similar earlier attempt, starting in 2012, the Surface RT at a price of $499, but this gadget did not succeed in the market. The price of new devices will be about $400. The output is expected in the second half of 2018.
The new line will become part of a growing ecosystem of Microsoft hardware products, which includes tablets in addition to laptop Surface Laptop, Surface Book with a removable screen and the desktop Surface Studio.
Additionally, in March, Apple launched a new iPad model for $329-oriented education system. New cheaper Surface would also appeal to students and teachers and schools who buy less expensive devices wholesale.
