City Council passed a motion recognizing the place of metal in the history of the city and the province.
Councilor Craig Sauve, from the ruling Projet Montreal party, introduced the motion, which was endorsed by other metal lovers on council.
According to Mr. Sauve, the metal scene in Montreal is ignored, denigrated or underestimated, and this recognition was therefore important to contribute to the proliferation of this musical style.
Several metal bands were born in the city, which hosts a two-day festival called Heavy Montreal.
The statement, which was adopted at Monday’s town council meeting, received support from both parties.
