Shocking data published by the Prosecutor’s office of Pennsylvania. Despite the active opposition from the representatives of the Catholic Church, part of which appears in the published report, the court decided to make public information on the special investigation. In the end it became known that only in Pennsylvania for the past 70 years, more than 1 thousand children suffered from sexual violence by Catholic priests.
In the opinion of the state attorney General Josh Shapiro, the Church leadership should immediately abandon the practice of concealment of such crimes. Before to publish this report, he wrote a letter to the Pope, asking him to influence high-ranking Catholic officials, who tried in court to prohibit the publication of the report.

“A comprehensive investigation conducted by the Prosecutor’s office revealed many cases of sexual violence against children and the systematic coverup of these crimes by the leaders of the Catholics. Last month I had planned to release the results of our investigation. However, when this became known to representatives of the Church, the anonymous petitioners involved in this report, went to court to stop me and silence their victims“, – stated in the message of Pope Francis.
The report lists numerous cases of sexual abuse of children. The first of these is dated 1947. However, the report argues that, despite the huge number of victims, the reality may be much worse, as the tracks of many such crimes were completely destroyed. In total, the published report included more than 300 priestswho have been convicted of misconduct, sexual violence or debauchery of a minor.
At the moment it is difficult to predict, what consequences will cause the publication of this information. According to experts from human rights organizations, a number of former and current priests can be charged with committing crimes against young children.
Earlier, we wrote that Florida officials plan to require all schools to post the state motto of “In God We Trust” (In God is our hope). The new law, many residents of the region met with criticism, saying that politicians should deal with real problemsrather than concentrating public attention on such trifles.
