Russia initiated the convening of the February 12 meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine under the pretext of the fourth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements. However, its real purpose is to divert attention from special meeting February 20, to mark the fifth anniversary of the aggression against Ukraine.
This was stated press Secretary of the Permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN Oleg Nikolenko, reports UKRINFORM.
“We know that the Russian Federation addressed to the Chairman of the UN Security Council with a request to convene on 12 February, the security Council meeting on the situation in Ukraine. The declared reason – the fourth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk agreements”, – said the diplomat.
Nikolenko added that the Russian initiative is another “smokescreen” intended to distract the attention of the States members of the United Nations first comprehensive discussion of Russian aggression against Ukraine at a special session of the UN General Assembly on 20 February, to mark the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the conflict.
According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the constructive role of Russia in solving the resulting armed conflict against Ukraine in the UN, nobody believes, therefore, the convening of this meeting of the Security Council is particularly cynical.
Nikolenko noted that Ukraine uses this event to draw attention to the real situation in the Donbas.
He drew attention to the fact that the Russians date is not accidental because on February 12, the UN has also scheduled a presentation of the humanitarian response Plan for Ukraine in 2019.
