Swiss experts suggest that the first manned mission all the same and then returned to Earth. The idea is to build a base for colonization of Mars and be an interplanetary species was a topic of discussion for decades. However, until the active action is never reached, writes the Chronicle.info with reference to UNIAN.
However, now there is at least a plan of colonization. Scientists of the Federal Polytechnic school of Lausanne in Switzerland described step-by-step instructions on how to create on a neighboring planet reliable research station.
According to the magazine Discover, a detailed plan for how to reach Mars, set up camp there and create an environment that would be suitable for people’s lives in the long run. Armed with such a statement, scientists can finally start to plan for the long-awaited colonization of the red planet. Of course, the incarnation of the idea will take many years.
However, the wording of the strategy – this is something. The first step in building a colony on Mars, of course, would be to discovery places on the planet, the most suitable for survival. Scientists pay attention to the poles of the planet, where large reserves of ice that have accumulated for many thousands of years. This ice contains a significant amount of frozen water that potentially can be extracted and prepared for human consumption.
The poles also have many other useful resources, such as carbon dioxide, iron, aluminum, silicon, and sulfur. They can be used for the production of, for example, glass, brick, plastic, and other necessary construction materials. In the end, with effort, you can even use the hydrogen and methane on the planet for the production of fuel. However, all of these resources as a habitable environment, will not be available to the first colonists at once. So first Swiss scientists propose to send to Mars a group of robots that would start construction before the arrival of people.
The second stage – the construction of a Martian base. It should consist of three parts: a Central core, three capsules and the massive dome that it was all covered. The Central core of the base should be 12.5 meters height and 5 meters in diameter. It should serve as a small but adequate living quarters for the astronauts. Three capsules around the nucleus will play the role of air traffic transitions connecting the core to the surface of Mars and minimizes the difference in atmospheric pressure between them. A huge dome of plastic fibers must be covered with 5 meters of ice that will cover the entire area of the base. This is necessary in order to protect the colony from cosmic radiation, as well as to adjust the air pressure.
Once the robots finish to build a base on Mars sent a crew of six people. It is best to start this mission during the Martian polar summer, when sunlight will persist for 288 days. Of course, astronauts will need food and batteries to survive this long summer. And also useful for reactors that could produce energy from the Martian elements such as thorium. After living on a Mars base 9 months, the team must return to the Land that would become the first ever manned mission to Mars. But it doesn’t stop there.
The second mission would aim to launch system cranes which are designed to stay in orbit of the planet and transport materials from the spacecraft to the research base on the Martian surface. Every tap is reusable will be able to unload the equipment for six different missions simultaneously, which will speed up the process of colonization. The publication notes that the plan of Swiss scientists for the Mars on paper at first glance seems perfect. But it still has mistakes. For example, to build the described Martian base, we need 110 tons of equipment.
Today there are no missiles capable of carrying such a great burden. Also the plan does not take into account the possibility of unforeseen circumstances that could stop or slow down colonization. However, the formulation of a clear action plan is a step in the right direction.
