Mine of nothing, in the last five years were rather cool and we will reconsider later on with a certain nostalgia… Why ? Simply because for 5 years we no longer had signs of life of a new G. I. Joe.
But everything is cyclical in this world and, in five years, not a lot of things have changed in how one understands the franchise at the cinema. Even more than before, we think of “universe expanded” for everything and anything, so it was logical that at some point, this will push G. I. Joe to come out of his retirement. Sad, but logical.
Snake-Eyes, back, angry
After two films, not quite brilliant but relatively fun and a project of a sequel quickly fell to the water, this is only in the last few weeks we hear more and more things about a spin-off that would be dedicated to Snake-Eyes, the black ninja who fights on the side of the gentiles then that White Storm, his twin brother, and ninja white, fighting on the side of the wicked.
We had a confirmation no later than a few days ago that the film would be directed by Robert Schwentke director of the last two Divergent and stratosphériquement nase R. I. P. D. Brigade Fantôme. A choice not really reassuring, but that seemed to please the producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. Still had to answer to a big question : Ray Park was going to take over the role of Snake-Eyes ?
Snake-Eyes, in full reflection
Di Bonaventura has just brought the answer to the micro Slashfilms and it may not appeal to fans of Darth Maul :
“Probably not. Because we’re going to do an origin story. As you know, in the comics, we see his face. I will say that it is the creation of a hero. Therefore, we need to see someone and, having regard to its age, it may not be Ray Park, unfortunately.”
So yes, it is sad, but it is true that the top of its 44 years, Ray Park would convince in the role of a young ninja who has everything to prove and is preparing to take his destiny in hand. After that, we could also say that the production is not necessarily obliged to wallow in the cliché of the origin story to bring back G. I. Joe. Even if it is practical to reset the counters to zero. Just as much as it is very sad and annoying to hear always the same story of a film project to the other, but that is another debate.
Anyway, we can expect to see the film to land in our rooms somewhere in 2020.
Snake-Eyes, and a little sad
