The most authoritative reference for spelling of the German language Duden in Germany changed the spelling of the name of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Kyjiw is Kiew.
Reported by Pavlo Klimkin in Facebook.
“This is a screen shot from a dictionary Duden. Duden is the most authoritative reference for spelling of the German language. Earlier, unfortunately, in this dictionary the name of the Ukrainian capital was supplied only through the Russian transcription. But now there is every reason in full force to start the campaign #KyjiwKeinKiew (Kyiv not Kiev) in German-speaking countries. Language, a category which is constantly evolving, should make use of it”, wrote on page Klimkin.
The Minister urged Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine in the German-speaking world to join the efforts of our dipuchrezhdeny and support the trend the correct use of the Ukrainian geographical names.
“Departing from Vienna, Berlin or Munich airport in Kiev, even nicer to return Home, if our German friends will indicate, how we say it. Let us work together to overcome linguistic injustice regarding the Ukrainian language”, called on the foreign Minister.
He hopes that the first will join the campaign of the Embassy of Germany and Austria in Kiev.
