MONTREAL — The Canadian seemed to have the wind in our sails in the beginning of the meeting, on Saturday, and then a disallowed goal broke the rhythm of montreal.
The Washington Capitals then scored three goals before the end of the first twenty, and they have spun into a victory of 6-4.
Alex Galchenyuk had opened the scoring for the locals, and then Brendan Gallagher was believed to have brought the score to 2-0 at 9:38 of the first period. The head coach of the Capitals, Barry Trotz, has, however, disputed the goal and the referees have given him, because Paul Byron was in an offside position at the entrance of the zone.
“It is a pity, because the out-of-game had no consequence on the goal scored,” said the head coach of the Canadian, Claude Julien. They have regained possession and then committed an error. We want more goals, but a player has been protected from an error by a regulation.”
Evgeny Kuznetsov, with his first of two goals in numerical advantage during the match, and Tom Wilson, two-time, have allowed the Capitals to retreat to the locker room with a lead of 3-1 and the Canadian was never in the game thereafter.
Jay Beagle and T. J. Oshie have also moved the ropes to the Capitals (44-24-7). Nicklas Backstrom has earned four helpers, while John Carlson and Andre Burakovsky were harvested in two each.
Philipp Grubauer was pushed out of 17 shots, and the Capitals have signed a seventh victory in their past eight outings.
On the side of the Canadian (27-37-12), which has lost five of its last six games, Galchenyuk has amassed a goal and an assist, while Charles Hudon, twice, and Gallagher have also hit the target.
Carey Price has provided six goals on 30 shots and was not always very well published. He had been beaten five times by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Wednesday, in his first game since February 20 due to a concussion.
“Without entering into the details, we know how good it is, and will be good, said Julian, going to the defence of Price. He has not had his best evening, and Carey will be the first to admit it. At the same time, it has not been very good in front of him, has been given a lot of chances from the enclave.”
The Canadian will complete a grueling sequence of 12 games in 21 days by welcoming the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. It has compiled up here a record of 2-8-1.
In addition, the Habs announced during the meeting have granted a contract for three seasons in the attacking 20-year-old Hayden Verbeek.
A brief moment of hope
Even the most optimistic would not have been able to anticipate the great start of a meeting of the Canadian, while the local players have exploited their speed and skill to multiply the opportunities to score.
Nikita Scherbak has notably raised the crowd such as has seldom been seen since the departure of Alex Kovalev, beating the defender Jakub Jerabek twice. After returning on his steps, Scherbak then got rid of Brett Connolly to move into the enclave. Grubauer has, however, managed to stop his shooting wrist with the right shoulder.
A good effort from Jacob de la Rose was then allowed Galchenyuk to open the scoring at 8:35 of the first twenty. The Rose has lost the puck in the corner of the area of Capitals defender Matt Niskanen and Galchenyuk has recovered. It was then dark to Grubauer, he beat him with a nice deke to the backhand.
The momentum of the Canadian was held back 63 seconds later by the cancellation of a goal from Gallagher. Kuznetsov has then tied it at 11:11 in digital advantage, to using a shooting of cuffs that went under the glove of Price.
Wilson added two goals before the end of the period. He first took advantage of a change in Price behind the goal to then beat the keeper under the glove at 14:49. Wilson then completed a beautiful manoeuvre initiated by Burakovsky and Backstrom at 18:11.
The break was not especially beneficial for the Canadian, who was still amorphous at the return of the intermission. Beagle took the opportunity to widen the gap at 4:52 when he deflected a shot from Dmitry Orlov.
The Canadian gave a sign of life before the end of the second twenty, and Hudon did fly with 1.3 second by deflecting a shot from the edge of Jordie Benn in between the legs of Grubauer.
Kuznetsov, still in the digital advantage, and Oshie have increased ahead of the visitors early in the third period. Hudon and Gallagher, digital advantage, have found the back of the net before the end, but it was a small consolation for the Canadian.
Echoes of locker room
Charles Hudon on the disallowed goal from Brendan Gallagher, who has cut the wings of the Canadian:
“I think that during the first 10 minutes, we put a lot of pressure, recovering the washers and it was games. It happens when a goal is disallowed, you lose your rhythm. I think that in second and third, it was not that bad. It has content, but all was for them. It was about to get back, but we ran out of time.”
Carey Price was asked whether he believed the Capitals had deliberately targeted his side of the mitten:
“May-be. He would have to ask them.”
Brendan Gallagher played his 400th career game, about the mob, who even went to a wave a little ironic, then, that the Canadian was behind 4-1 at the score midway in the second period:
“You always want the crowd to be with you, but it’s part of our job to block out distractions. It is also up to us to give them a reason to encourage us. The supporters are frustrated, but we also. It is a frustrating season.”
