The people involved in the pilot project on basic income in Ontario will know in two weeks when the program ends.
Provincial government under the progressive conservatives, announced last week that “collapses” the liberals started the project, and reduces the planned increase in the size of social assistance from 3% to 1.5%. These are the first steps taken by the government of Ontario taken to modernize the social security system.
Public service reported that last week members of the project for obtaining a basic income sent out notification that they will receive payment until August. They do not have any information about the exact date when the project is completely stopped.
The Minister of social services Ontario Lisa MacLeod advised that the participants in the program will receive the money later this month, and promised that the end date of the program will be announced in August.
A pilot project on basic income, will last for three years, was launched last year. In the framework of the monetary payments received 4 000 needy people in various Ontario communities, including Hamilton, Brantford, thunder Bay and Lindsay.
Single participants of the project received $16 989 per year, and couples up to $24 027.
