On Wednesday, the Liquor Control Board in conjunction with the Ontario Cannabis Store announced the location of the first four provincial shops selling cannabis in Ontario. The stores will be located in Guelph, Kingston, Toronto and thunder Bay.
The Agency stated that stores will operate in full compliance with the current law: all points of sales located at a distance from schools and the staff will strictly check the age of buyers to take into account all the factors relied on by the government when drafting the bill on the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Ontario became the first province that has announced a detailed plan for the sale and distribution of recreational marijuana and has set the legal age for purchase at 19. This was approved in early April, however, the government is left to individual provinces to develop their own distribution system, store locations and rules for the sale of marijuana in the regions.
It is expected that this year will open 40 stores, and by July of the next year another 40. In total, by 2020, the province plans to create about 150 offline shops cannabis.
In Ontario, the stores will be at the following addresses:
304 Stone Road West, Guelph
770 Gardiners Road, Kingston
2480 Gerrard Street East, Toronto
570 Harbour Expressway, Thunder Bay
