The Moscow Patriarchate responded to the call of Constantinople to take part in the unification Council

Московский патриархат ответил Константинополю на призыв принять участие в объединительном соборе

Members of the clergy of the UOC-MP headed by Metropolitan Onufry believe that the Ecumenical Patriarch does not have the canonical right to convene the unification Council in Kiev, which is scheduled for December 15. The decision of the hierarchs of the MP is adopted at the meeting of the Synod.

In their opinion, Patriarch Bartholomew is not entitled to call for such meetings of the bishops of their Church.

“The planned unification Council considered an illegal meeting, since it will be attended by representatives of separatist groups,” — said the press-service of the Church.

Recall Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew convenes unification Council of the future local Orthodox Church in Ukraine on December 15. He should be held in the St. Sophia Cathedral of Kiev.

At this meeting the Ecumenical Patriarch invited all the hierarchs of the UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Bishops should form a new Church, to approve its Charter and elect the Primate.

The Cathedral will be attended by about 45 of the hierarchs of the UOC-KP, UAOC 14 members, and everyone hierarchs of the UOC-MP. Written invitations to participate in the Cathedral got all the hierarchs of the UOC-MP. However, it is still unknown how many of its representatives can respond.

After the election of the Metropolitan of the United local Orthodox Church in Ukraine needs to go to Constantinople and to Tomos from the hands of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.

As he wrote, “FACTS”, in the new United Orthodox Church in Ukraine will not be the Patriarch, it is governed by the Metropolitan. Under the new Charter, the Ukrainian Church will be introduced to the Greek practice of Church administration.
