In Zhytomyr launched an investigation on the fact of exerting pressure on priests of the newly established Orthodox Church in Ukraine (PCU).
This was reported by press Secretary of the Prosecutor General Andrei Lysenko.
“On Monday, February 11, 2019, Zhytomyrska the local Prosecutor’s office brought data in the Unified register of pre-judicial investigations on signs of the crime provided by part 1 of article 161 of the criminal code of Ukraine (violation of equality of citizens depending on their racial, national belonging, religious belief)”, – he wrote.
According to Lysenko, it was found that the priests who went into the PCU, representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) received a text message with threats and calls to repentance, and the like. Thus, the violation of the right of citizens to religion, which is unacceptable, said the press Secretary of the GPU.
“Now the criminal proceedings are conducted necessary investigative actions, published in the press checked the facts, establishes the direct participation of persons in committing a criminal offence”, – said Lysenko.
