Today, August 8, Republican Senator Rand Paul (ky) said that he considered it a great honor “to deliver the letter to the President of the trump of the presidential administration of Vladimir Putin“. In turn, the White house said that it was purely a personal initiative of Senator to pass a letter of recommendation to the Russian leader, hoping to meet him.

In the letter the President referred to the topics of interest to Senator Paul that he would like to discuss with President Putin, “said White house spokesman Hogan Gigli.

The Senator himself on his Twitter page wrote that trump wrote about the importance of negotiations between the U.S. and Russia on such topics as the fight against terrorism, as well as the development of the future “dialogue between the legislative bodies” and “the resumption of cultural exchange“.

But an administration trump told CNNthat Paul wanted this letter from trump in the hope of a dialogue with Putin during his working trip to Moscow this week. (At the moment, the meeting between the Floor and the Russian leaders did not take place, and is not expected). The official stressed that the topics that were included in the letter is that the Senator wanted to discuss with Putin.

As reported by Russian news Agency RIA Novosti, the press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the letter was sent to Putin “through diplomatic channels“, but it has not yet been considered.

Paul is known for his benevolent attitude toward Moscow. He remained on the side of trump after the speech of the President of the United States at a press conference with Putin on June 16.
