Between Israel and Poland had a diplomatic scandal because of the words of Benjamin Netanyahu on the fact that the poles collaborated with the Germans during the Holocaust.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Netanyahu said these words during a visit to the Museum of history of Polish Jews, located on the territory of the former Warsaw ghetto. The statement that the poles helped the Germans murder Jews during the Second world war, was made during a meeting with Israeli journalists.
At the same time, Netanyahu stressed that it is necessary to distinguish the past and the present, noting that in Western Europe today, the level of anti-Semitism are higher than in Eastern Europe.
The Polish government reacted very strongly to such a statement.
The President of Poland Andrzej Duda in the night of Friday, February 15, expressed doubts in expediency of a meeting of the “Visegrad group” in Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah really talked about the involvement of poles in the murder of Jews during the Holocaust.
On his Twitter page, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda wrote: “If the Prime Minister Netanyahu sounded as is reported, I am willing to offer the residence of the President of the Republic of Poland “Zamecek” in the Vistula for the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Visegrad group. Israel is not a good place to meet in this situation, despite previous agreements.”
The Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki said that he thinks whether to go to Jerusalem next week.
On 11 January it was announced about carrying out in Jerusalem on 18-19 February international summit of Central European (“visegrád group”), which will be attended by the Prime Ministers of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
