US senators want to ban Russian banks to conduct dollar settlements

It became known that a group of senators plans to introduce a bill that would ban Russian banks to hold dollar settlements. This should involve, first and foremost, state institutions of the Russian Federation, such as VTB, VEB, Sberbank and Promsvyazbank. It is expected that within a few days the full text of the document will be published on the website of the U.S. Congress.
Journalists argue that the bill entitled “an Act to protect American security from the aggression of the Kremlin in 2018” shall prohibit Russian banks operations in the U.S., and to freeze the assets 7 of the state financial institutions. In addition, we plan to cease transactions with debt securities of the Russian Federation, with a maturity of more than two weeks. Among the authors of the bill are Lindsay Graham, Robert Menendez and Cory Gardner.
It is noteworthy that the document begins with the call to the current President of the United States to strengthen the counteraction of the Russian Federation, which has repeatedly intervened in the internal political life of the country. Mentioned there about the Crimea, which, according to the senators, should be immediately returned to Ukraine. Moreover, Donald Trump propose publicly to urge Russia to return the Peninsula to the “rightful owner”.
Analysts believe that if such a bill will indeed be approved by Congress, it will cause a huge blow to the economy of the Russian Federation. According to them, the leadership of the Russian Federation over the past years trying to avoid such sanctions, because they can lead to the closure of correspondent accounts and defaulted to Western financial institutions. Given the global implications that will provoke such a solution, experts believe that the US will not go for such a radical step.
