You remember the time when we had sold Venom as a movie rated R in the USA ? A film dark and violent ? Away the small things Marvel ? It was fun huh ? And it seems already so far away….
After having launched the project last year , targeting an adult audience, Sony had managed to drool on the lips of everyone in regards to his film, Venom. And it is true that it was difficult to see the anti-hero Marvel, enemy of Spider-Man particularly cruel, become a friend of the children and participate in their birthday celebrations. The arrival of Tom Hardy on the project, we had strengthened in this way has been that of the film until last August when, in a reversal of the jacket is so masterful that one wonders how he was able to create a hurricane all by itself, the studio announced the change of category of the movie from Ruben Fleischer, from R to PG-13. And too bad for us in the passage.
Venom, clearly not the kind neighbor
If the film initially planned was not to be a monument of gore absolute, this new section of “all public” announced, however, a finished product in line with the MCU, not too dark, innocent and with a few big jokes of history that we don’t take it that much seriously. A change of course was confirmed yesterday, as the film will be released with a PG-13.
However, as the decision was taken late, one can only hope that the film has been shot with a label R in the head, which means that the problematic passages for censorship do exist and thatwe can thus dream of a hypothetical Director’s Cut version which would correspond to what the movie had to be at the start. A hypothesis that has not absolutely ruled out Ruben Fleischer at the microphone of Fandango :
Bouh les ch’tits no children !
“I don’t want to rule out any possibility. We’ll see how it will happen, but I don’t want to exclude anything.”
Of about somewhat elusive, necessarily, the film is not yet in the rooms, and a confirmation may discourage a part of the public to buy a ticket, but lets understand that the idea is in discussion. If it is obvious that such a version would be for video and VOD, the version PG-13 could be a big advantage for the Spiderverse to Sony. In fact, with Spider-Man who returns to the studio in 2019, out of a film PG-13 could open the way to a cross-over between the two characters in the future, Marvel will accept that the PG-13. We like therefore to obtain the two versions, that way everyone will be happy and we will finally have Spidey back in a universe that may not exist much longer without him. Output on our screens on October 10.
