What Russia will do with the “DNR”-“LNR” and articulated two scenarios

Что Россия будет делать с "ДНР"-"ЛНР": озвучены два сценария

Separate districts of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which now controls Russia are the Kremlin’s territorial foothold for a new leap to seize new territories. Until then, while the power remains in the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Donbass, one can hardly count.

About it in exclusive interview “the FACTS,” said historian Yuri Felshtinsky. According to him, unleashing aggression against Ukraine in 2014, Putin has solved two tasks: “the maximum Program — quickly, quietly and bloodlessly to take over Ukraine. The minimum program — to kindle there the raging conflict that would prevent the theoretical possibility of Ukraine’s joining NATO.”

The historian noted that the minimum was done — NATO does not accept in its membership countries involved in conflicts and have unresolved territorial problems. “For this reason Russia is not interested in peaceful settlement of the conflict in Transnistria, neither in Georgia nor in Ukraine”, — he added.

As for the future of the occupied territories of Donbass, Yuri Felshtinsky wouldn’t expect that Russia will withdraw its troops and give the territory under the control of Ukraine, while the power is Vladimir Putin. If we talk about the plan for the regularization of “republics” by holding a referendum on independence, the international community does not recognize their results.

“During the meeting, trump and Putin in July of this year in the capital of Finland, the Russian side has voiced this idea. But the summit ended in absolute disaster for trump. It was criticized not only by Democrats but also allies-the Republicans. So the hope is to support trump on the question of holding a Moscow-sponsored another Ukrainian referendum similar to Crimea, is gone” — says the historian.

At the same time, according to him, Putin will never give up what is already captured. “For him, it will create a new territorial foothold for a new leap to seize another piece of land”, — summed up Yuriy Felshtinsky.
