Who is easier to live, owls or early risers

Кому легче живется, совам или жаворонкам

British researchers from the University of Birmingham has shown a difference in brain “owls” and “larks”.

The researchers took 38 volunteers, 14 of them were men says 24 health.

16 people got up in the morning, while others used to waking up late. According to scientists, the “owls” constantly experiencing a mismatch between biological and social clocks. That’s why researchers decided to find out why people with the same chronotype have difficulties with the usual schedule.

Participants were scanned using magnetic resonance imaging at run time tests for attention. In the test, volunteers must name the color of words that are painted in a different hue. The job performed at different times during the day from 8:00 to 20:00.

The results have shown that “larks” reacted faster in the morning hours and demonstrated a significant advantage in tests over the “owls”. However, in the evening “owls” better coped with the tasks compared to “larks,” but their advantage was not so significant.

The number of neural connections in these areas of the brain “the lark” was significantly higher than the “owls” at all times. These figures indicate that the “owls” suffer from loads of the normal working day.

The density of neural connections in that area of the brain that provides the best performance and the least drowsiness, was significantly higher in “larks” in all the time periods. In “owls,” these neural connections are weakened in the course of a working day.
